Colorado Blizzard

By Chad Stroh

The Colorado area has been experiencing a severe blizzard since Tuesday, December 20th. The airport has been closed and all flights are canceled. The closing of the Denver International Airport will effect millions of travelers worldwide traveling for the holidays. Many areas in Denver are experienced up to 2 feet of snow and up to 30 inches in the mountains. Close to 5,000 people were stranded at the Denver International Airport. Up to 1000 flights were canceled Wednesday and Thursday. The runways are expected to open back up sometime friday afternoon. Friday night might not be the end of the snow for Colorado. The National Weather Service is warning for perhaps another storm this Friday and Saturday. The state has come to a complete halt while most roads are too snowy to drive on. Nebraska and Kansas are also getting some of the huge blizzard. Colorado Governor Bill Owens issued and declared a state of emergency and the National Guard has working on the roadways and has been delivering food, bottled water and baby items to the Denver International Airport. Many people say this is the most powerful storm in Colorado since the 2003 blizzard, which piled up to 11 feet of snow in some areas of Colorado. Many people were wishing for a white Christmas, but at what cost! Colorado is not new to large snow storms. Colorado is known for it's strange weather. Usually after the state has a large snow storm, the next day is usually sunny! The storm might be surprising for people who have never been to Colorado, but not for it's residents.
