Summit County Colorado Suffering From Pine Beetles

If you drive through Summit County Colorado you might notice something strange about the trees. Major towns like Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne are suffering from pine beetles. Many trees are being killed and cut down. The trees are easy to notice when they have pine beetle. The trees have red and yellow needles. Many people have infested trees on their properties. Many people find the best way to get rid of the pine beetles is to chip away any areas that look infested. People are scared about what the pine beetles might do to the trees in this area and their effect on the ecosystem. A few animals do benefit from the areas of cleared trees. This is because more sunlight gives nutrients to the brush and soil. Animals like the snowshoe hare, white-crowned sparrow, mule deer, juncos and elk may benefit from the pine beetles. The pine beetles are still causing many problems to other animals that thrive in dense forest. One animal hepling kill the pine beetles is the woodpecker, which feeds on pine beetles.
